Vote for My Book Cover

I am putting my book covers to a vote. Here are two potential book covers for my romantic suspense.

NOTE: these are mockups, so the images have not been purchased yet and therefore have watermarks and quality issues. And I'll change out the guy image, so the gun is more evident. But the color/layout will be the same. Also, this is going to be a series, so the other book titles are "A Taste for Sin" and "An Ear for Lies". Whichever design I choose has to apply to all 3 books, though the coloring (like blue vs. orange) will change per book.

Give your vote in the comments section. I will send a $10 Starbucks card to one lucky commenter randomly picked (by my hubby) :)

  1. Definately the blue... your names bigger, and it is more eye catching overall.

  2. I like the blue background but that's because I prefer cool colors. However, I like the fonts and tag line layout of the orangish example.

    I hope this helps.

  3. I like the title layout for option 2, but the slug in option 1 is clearer and stands out better, but the placement in 2 is better. Option 2 wins for the author name.

    Best of luck!

  4. I'd agree with Beth.
I'd use the color from the second, but with the fonts and layouts from the first.

  5. I like the color of #2, and the fonts/layout from #1. Though I'd be curious to see a version that was blue, used fonts from #1 and the tagline position from #2.

  6. I like #1.
#2 reminds me of a red white and blue anthology-- like men in uniform.
I also like the layout in #1.I'd consider putting the title in white and your name in gold.
    Just me.

  7. I prefer the colors of #1 actually. I was a little thrown by the circle--is that not part of the final layout? Good luck choosing! Congrats on the release!

  8. I like the second one with the blue background - better color contrast. I also like the lettering of the title better also.
But then, blue is my favorite color.
    Good luck!

  9. I like number 1 best. The colour grabbed my attention. If I was scrolling through lists of titles, the colour would have made me stop and check out your book.

  10. The blue. It popped out and grabbed me. I passed right over the orange.

  11. I liked the first one, but I also like the ideas of changing it to the blue scheme

  12. As a professional cover designer, I would say as far as grabbing the eye, the Blue cover does it best. However, the layout for the first cover is great. Your name is too large on the Blue one. Switch them over and you have a winner.

  13. Definitely Cover #1. The orange reminds me of fire, which connotes danger. I also like the layout of the text better. The second one is jarring to the eye.

  14. I like:
** the background color in 1
** the title font style for 1, but not the title font color
** the author name font, size, color, and placement in 2

The contrast between the background color and the model is better in 2.

The placement if the bridge background is better in 2 (but if you decided to change the title style it might not work as well).

The red bar is great in both, but the use of it is better in 2.

The flash placement is better in 2 but the font color is difficult to read against the background.

I assume the Hot Dam? watermark isn't yours, but if it is then its placement over the model's gut decreases his "sexy" factor considerably.

The "feel" for both of them is dark and dangerous with a smidge of sex in the night!

Not sure if any of this helps! :-)

  15. No. 1. I especially like the layout and the fonts used.

  16. I'm liking No.2. The font and layout look more professional. There's something about the blue water that makes it all seem natural.

  17. I like the blue best but with smaller author name---not small, just smaller.

  18. I liked the blue one better... that would've been the one I would click on the thumbnail to find out more.

  19. The blue cover does a much better job of showing off the bridge. I vote for blue

  20. Option 1 is more eye catching and its fonts are distributed evenly.

  21. Blue one is better

  22. I like them both. But the background--the bridge and city is easier to distinguish in the blue one. In the orange one I got the impression of an oil rig for some reason, lol.

However, I like the arrangement of the title better on the orange one because it doesn't bleed into the hero's chest. Readers will want to see that sexy chest.

  23. I'm with Beth on this one! Incidentally, it looks like you've used Kim Killion's Hot Damn Designs here-not a bad choice! I wonder if the model is the one I took a picture with at RWA last year-lol!

  24. Blue... but change the shadow on on betrayal never looked so tempting, maybe increase to font size as well.

  25. This is a tough choice, but I like #1 better. In #2, the red, white, and blue make me think of patriotism and flags. If #2 didn't include the red band, it would work better for me.

  26. I'd go with the blue one. Other than the color, your name is bigger and the hook is hookier. Hmm, is that a word? Well, it is now. LOL

  27. Thanks to everyone for commenting on my book cover. Your feedback was invaluable and I’ve made many changes based on your comments and ideas. I’ll release the new version closer to the book release, but am postponing till things calm down at home and I can focus (can we say PUPPY?).

I have to apologize for not responding earlier, but it was not for a lack of trying--Blogger wouldn't let me post a comment or reply to your comments individually (some kind of cross-scripting issue). So I sent notes to those for whom I could find emails, and I'm finally able to post a comment today thanks to a java update. Phew, technology can still be a challenge!

Thanks again, and best wishes to you all!!!!
